Hello!  My name is Lisa and I have decided to start a blog! (How many blogs start out with that exact line?) This blog will follow my path from surgery to recovery to my first two  Half Marathons within the next year!

Let me start from the beginning and tell you a little bit about myself.  I am in my early 30's and back in my glory days of high school I was quite the runner.  Somewhere along the way I lost my love for running and completely forgot that it was one of my favorite things!

I am blessed with some amazing friends and they are runners. They were always talking about this race or that race and always invited me along.  Last year in March of 2012, I decided to run my first 5k- ever.  I literally went straight from my couch to a 5k.  No training, just "that's sounds like fun," and so I signed up that morning and ran!  I thought I was going to pass out, but I also rediscovered an old love!

And so my obsession began... by August I had ran 7 5k's! AND developed a very sharp pain in my left ankle that hurt worse when I was running.  I continued running and toughed it out through 2 more 5k's and one 15k.  MY FOOT WAS KILLING ME!

I finally went to the doctor in December. We did x-rays... and it came back negative for stress fractures.  I was sent on to an ortho doc and he put me in a boot for 3 weeks and then a brace along with physical therapy for 4 weeks.  And the worse part- NO MORE RUNNING UNTIL I WAS BETTER.  I was devastated!  I finally rediscovered this love for running, I was getting in great shape, I was setting new PR's every race... and then I was injured.  I was in the boot (nicked named Das Boot) most of December and in PT through January.

My goal during this time of recuperation was to get better before the Mickey and Minnie Royal Family 5k at Disney World at the end of February.  I had already registered and was going to support my Best Running Friend while she conquered her first half marathon- The Princess Half!  That 5k hurt EVERY STEP OF THE WAY but I crossed that finish line and got my medal!  My BRF killed it in the half, if you were wondering!

I returned to my ortho doc and he ordered an MRI in March.  We found the problem- a cyst had developed in the back of my ankle from years of damage (did I mention I can walk and turn an ankle for absolutely no reason?) and the muscle that attaches to my peroneal tendons grew too far down causing severe tendonitis.

SO surgery it was...  I had surgery on April 18, 2013 and am healing nicely.  My cast came off within two weeks and I am almost able to walk in just Das Boot.  I still need the aid of my crutches by I am determined to ditch those by the end of next week.

Keeping positive after surgery!

Out of my cast! Healing nicely!

This is my story.  I haven't lost my love for running, I think it has just become stronger.  I can not wait to get back out on the roads and spend time with my amazing running friends whom have been super supportive during this journey.  I am truly blessed with great friends and family that have helped me get through this injury.

Yesterday I signed up for the Route 66 Half Marathon in Tulsa.  It is on November 23, 2013.  This blog will pretty much be devoted to my recovery and comeback over the next few months and my preparations to run my first Half Marathon (it gives me the chills to just say that!).  I will also be running the Princess Half and Enchanted 10k in February 2013 for runDisney's Glass Slipper Challenge with two of the best friends a gal could ask for!

Oh and why Cupcakes-N-Running shoes- you may ask?  I love to bake, it's another hobby of mine.  I promise to share some pictures of my scrumptious cupcakes along the way!

Sorry for such a long first blog, but I wanted to tell you my whole story leading up to the creation of this blog...  Thank you for reading and I really hope you follow me throughout my, I'm guessing, very challenging journey that I am about to begin. Any and all support would be fantastic and appreciated!

Much Love and Happy Training!
